Kim Kashkashian

Kim Kashkashian ( born August 31, 1952 in Detroit, USA) is an American viola player of Armenian descent.

Life

Kim Kashkashian studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. After the first competition successes, she called us to a an international career as a soloist one, appeared at major festivals, played numerous recordings and is now a sought-after chamber musician - on the other hand, she taught again and again even at universities. From the University of Indiana in Bloomington, she moved in 1989 to the University of Music in Freiburg, before she assumed in 1996 a professorship at the Academy of Music " Hanns Eisler" Berlin. In the summer of 2000 she was appointed professor of the New England Conservatory of Music, and returned to the United States.

In addition to relevant pieces by composers such as Bach, Brahms and Schumann preferably has recorded more recent compositions, including works by Paul Hindemith, Bartók, Benjamin Britten and Krzysztof Penderecki. From their collaboration with contemporary composers partially premiere recordings that helped expand the relatively small viola repertoire emerged. Looking for new ways to exceed the limits of classical music in the strict sense and works in productions that are rather the areas assigned to folklore, jazz and world music. One example is their involvement in the album In Praise of Dreams by the Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek in 2004. Moreover, there were tour appearances with pianist Robert Levin and percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky.
