Biography

Training

Kim Märkl was born in Cleveland, Ohio and began her musical training with Angelo Fortini, who gave her along with her ​​father, a drummer, the first musical ideas. Your Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet she received from Indiana University Bloomington and a Master of Music from Northwestern University, Chicago, where she studied with Robert Marcellus. Further studies with Larry Combs had great influence on their musical development. In 1985 she received a Fulbright scholarship to study at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany, where she graduated with a soloist diploma.

Life and work

Kim Märkl is now a sought-after chamber musician, soloist, orchestral musician and teacher. She has performed at the festivals of Spoleto, Tanglewood and Aspen and played in various orchestras in Germany and Switzerland. In 2002 she founded with her husband, Thomas Key Märkl, violinist with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the recording studio Atlantic Crossing, where she works as a producer, composer and author.
