The Kinepolis Group is a listed Belgian cinema chain. It was founded in 1997 and operates 22 theaters in Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland and Poland. All cinemas are certified with the quality seal of the George Lucas group of companies, "THX ".

Company History

The company was founded in the sixties by Albert Bert and his daughter- Rose Claeys - Vereecke founded, initially with only one cinema in Harelbeke. In the following years they opened cinemas in Hasselt, Kortrijk, Ghent and Liège. In 1988 they opened their first multiplex cinema, the Kinepolis Brussels, which has 25 rooms, and claims to be the first " megaplex " in the world.

The groups Bert and Claeys merged in 1997 to a group of Kinepolis Group NV. In 1998 the company went public and opened in the same year his first two films outside of Belgium, Madrid and Paris. The expansion into Switzerland followed in 2000 with the only previous location. Also, only one site was implemented in Poland in 2001, this has been ongoing since January, 2007 by IT International Theaters ( ITIT ).

1999 acquired the Kinepolis Group a 30% share of the German cinema chain Cinemax. Beginning of 2004, the participation rate still 25% and fell due to a capital increase in October 2004 to 12.61 %. The investment was sold to the H Z Beteiligungs GmbH in January 2009.
