King of the Ring

King of the Ring is an annual tournament of the WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation. For the first time the King of the Ring took place in 1985. From 1993 to 2002, the event was held in pay- per-view form.

In the first round usually occur 32 athletes in individual battles against each other. In the knockout system it goes over eighth -, quarter and semi finals. The winner of the ' King of the Ring ' is rewarded at a ceremony with scepter and crown. As another variation, there is also the ' hardcore King of the Ring '. There are no rules of principle, that is, all items can be used at will. Even with interventions other wrestlers from outside, there is no disqualification.

The King of the Ring was the largest and most important major event in addition to the " Big 4 " PPV ( Summerslam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania ), but was not continued after the restructuring in the WWE in 2002.

After a four year break, the tournament was exclusive to SmackDown! place, but not as a major event, but in the weekly shows starting April 14, 2006 ( broadcast date). In April 2008, there was again a tournament like this, but this time with only 8 participants and in an edition of Raw. 2009 King of the Ring was not discharged. On 22 and 29 November 2010, the tournament was played again on RAW.
