Survivor Series

The Survivor Series is one of the major events of the wrestling market leader WWE, is next to Summer Slam, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, the "Big Four " pay- per-view events (PPV ) of the WWE.

Along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble and SummerSlam, Survivor Series is an event where the wrestlers in the WWE both squads, RAW and SmackDown compete (up to 2009, ECW) against each other.

History

The first edition of the event took place on 25 November 1987 at Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio instead. The concept were tag team elimination matches where teams faced each other with at least four members. The first of these matches denied the team of The Honky Tonk Man and Randy Savage.

The first few times were the Survivor Series a pure tag-team event. This changed in 1991, when the Undertaker against Hulk Hogan played a title match.

The event in 1997 was also the scene of the so-called Montreal Screwjobs at the match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

In 2002 the first Elimination Chamber match took place at Survivor Series.

Later, the classic elimination matches of Survivor Series lost increasingly important. On 11 February 2010 WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that it holds the concept to be outdated and would replace the big event. On 8 June 2010, however, McMahon announced that the Survivor Series would be still continued.
