The Kingdom of Scotland ( Scottish Gaelic Rìoghachd na h- Alba, scots: Kinrick o Scotland) existed on the territory of modern Scotland 843-1707 It took the northern third of the island of Great Britain, and bordered to the south by the Kingdom of England with. which it is in the Act of Union 1707 united the Kingdom of Great Britain. Since 1482 England took control of the coastal town of Berwick, the Kingdom of Scotland was as big as today's Scotland. It was east of the North Sea, west and north bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and southwest of the North Channel and the Irish Sea. Edinburgh replaced the old Scottish capitals Scone, Dunfermline and Stirling. The population was 1.1 million in 1700.
