Kingswear

Kingswear is a village in the South Hams in the southern English county of Devon. It is located on the eastern shore of the estuary of the River Dart and has about 1400 inhabitants.

Kingswear is known as the end point of the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway. By ferry you get to Dartmouth on the other side of the river. In Kingswear there are a few small shops for tourists needs and some Public Houses. The out-of- place on the river Kingswear Castle, a fortified artillery position from the 15th century, is privately owned. In addition, the place has a renewed Church in 1847, which belongs to the Diocese of Exeter Angelika niches, and the patron saint of St. Thomas of Canterbury is dedicated.

It is believed that the place was founded in early Anglo -Saxon times. In the history books Kingswear is first mentioned in 1170, when William de Vinci of the local church gave to the country. It is not entirely clear why Kingswear has not as well developed as Dartmouth on the other side. The passengers on board ships landed on their way to the grave of Thomas Beckett in Canterbury rather in Kingswear.

The train station in Kingswear was opened on 16 August 1864. Passengers on the globe found to South Africa or other parts unit at Royal Dart Hotel.

In more recent times was Kingswear location for feature films such as " The French Lieutenant 's Woman ," and various TV series. Not least thanks to the local Royal Dart Yacht Club takes the majority of participants in the annual Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta their berth at Kingswear.
