The Kintyre uranium deposit is located 90 km south of Telfer and 260 km north-east of Newman on the western edge of the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia.

History

Uranium was in the Kintyre region in 1985, today discovered by CRA Exploration Pty Ltd Rio Tinto.

Due to the low uranium prices, the exploration of mineral deposits has been discontinued and however recorded four years later in 2002. Originally, the uranium deposit was within the Rudall River National Park, however, this area was in 1994 separated from the protected zone out.

Deposit

The entire area includes the proposed mine site 3 km ² and a processing plant on 6 acres. The capital cost of the project is estimated at A $ 120 million, with an annual production of 1800 of 2,000 t of uranium oxide.

Owner and mining operation

In 2008 Cameco Corporation announced that it hold 70 % stake in the joint venture with Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd.. Today, the exploration by Cameco Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cameco operates. On 5 October, the Australian federal government allowed by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, the controlled development of a uranium mine. In September 2010 Cameo announced that the mine plant is built up to 2013 and with a production of 2700-3600 t of uranium oxide (measured as uranium (V, VI ) oxide U3O8 ) can be started in 2015. This can yield the following 15 years will continue.
