Kiran Nagarkar
Kiran Nagarkar ( Marathi: किरण नगरकर, Kiran Nagarkar, born 1942 in Bombay ) is a Mumbai ( Bombay ) living Indian writer who writes in Marathi and English. He has published novels, plays and screenplays.
Life
In addition to plays and screenplays Nagarkar wrote mainly four novels that earned him the reputation as an outstanding representative of contemporary Indian literature. Nagarkar studied at the Ferguson College in Bombay and then worked as a lecturer at various colleges, as a journalist, script writer and above all in the advertising industry.
His first novel "seed Sakkam Trechalis " (1974; German " Seven Sixes are Forty-Three ", 2007), he wrote in his mother tongue Marathi. The bitter and doing burlesque account of the living world of the young Bomb Ayers Kushank applies in its fragmented form and innovative treatment of language as a milestone in Marathi literature, and in 1975 awarded the Hari Narayan Apte Award for best debut novel.
His second novel " Ravan and Eddie " (1994; German " Ravan & Eddie ", 2004) wrote Nagarkar in English and therefore was often met with hostility. The story of the childhood of two boys from a Hindu and a Christian family, the neighbors are, and yet live in completely different worlds, has been criticized both as anti -Hindu as well as anti -Christian.
For his novel " Cuckold " (1997 German " Cuckold ", 2002) received Kiran Nagarkar in 2000, the highest recognition of the Indian Academy of Letters, the Sahitya Akademi Award.
In his latest novel, " God's Little Soldier" (2006; German " God's Little Soldier ", 2006) he treats extremism and fundamentalism.
From April 2008, Kiran Nagarkar was a guest of the DAAD Berlin Artists' Programme for a year.
From 24th to 30th November 2008, he took over together with the German writer Christoph Peters 22 Tübingen poetry chair at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.
From June to November 2011 he was a " writer in residence " of the Literature House Zurich and the PWG Foundation in Zurich. A text report about his stay is available on the project website.
