Kirkham House

Kirkham House is a medieval town house in the town of Paignton in Devon / UK.

It is not known exactly when Kirkham House was built, design and layout suggest, however, that it dates from the 14th or 15th century. It was formerly known as " The Priest 's House ", which suggests a connection to the church; but it could also have been the residence of a wealthy local businessman.

On the ground floor there is a living room elaborately engineered and open to the rafters " hall " in which guests could stay. Previously, both rooms stone washbasins, a rare luxury in medieval houses. Upstairs a gallery leads to three additional living areas and bedrooms. The kitchen was housed in a separate building, but of which only a few ruins still exist. There is also next to the house a small garden.

The late medieval building was left to the English Heritage of Ada Frances Jennings, together with a sum of money for restoration. Stone and stucco work were substantially upgraded, but it will get many parts of the original oak timbers and ancient carvings. The works were completed in 1960. The building is open to visitors; are shown of reproduction furniture and tapestries in the medieval style.
