Kirsten Sheridan

Kirsten Sheridan ( * July 14, 1976 in Dublin) is an Irish film director, screenwriter, producer and actress.

Life

Kirsten Sheridan was born as the daughter of the famous Irish director Jim Sheridan in Dublin. 1981 the family moved to the five -year-old Kirsten to New York City to where she spent most of her childhood and school years. Years later, she returned in 1989 with the family back to Ireland. The same year, Jim Sheridan landed with his Oscar-winning drama film My Left Foot ( My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown) an overwhelming success. In the film, Kirsten Sheridan played alongside lead actor Daniel Day- Lewis, a younger sister of the title character Christy Brown. In 1993, she attended the New York University to acquire skills in script writing. Thereafter, she attended the University College Dublin. At the local Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design she joined in 1998 from the short film Patterns, won various awards at festivals in Clermont- Ferrand, Cork, Galway, Dresden, Aspen and Chicago. Her next short film The Case of Majella McGinty escapes about a young girl hiding her stressful life in a suitcase, achieved awards at the festivals of Foyle, Cork, San Francisco, Cologne and Houston.

Her directorial debut, a movie she made in 2001 with Disco Pigs, a film about a teenage couple and their many years of obsessive and antisocial friendship. The film received nominations for Best Director working at the British Independent Film Awards and the Irish Film & TV Academy Awards.

Together with her sister, Naomi Sheridan, she wrote the screenplay for In America in 2002. The film, which was directed by her father, Jim Sheridan, based on the experiences of the family in New York and their modest financial circumstances. Naomi and Kirsten Sheridan received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay.

2007 Sheridan appeared next directorial effort The sound of the heart, with Jonathan Rhys- Meyers, Keri Russell and Freddie Highmore in the lead roles. 2012 followed her drama The Doll's House.
