Kisii people

The Kisii (also known as AbaGusii what the proper name is ) is an ethnic group of Bantu peoples ( formerly Kisii District Kisii and Nyamira ) inhabit the two districts in the Nyanza province in western Kenya.

Gusii is the sound name for their homeland and Mogusii is the cultural identification of its founder and patriarch.

The town of Kisii - among the local population also known as Bosongo - is located in the Nyanza Province in southwestern Kenya and is the center of the Gusii - people. The name Bosongo was changed during the British colonial period, since the British pursued a campaign that preferred the English language and even tried to eradicate local languages. According to the census of 1979, the Kisii district had a population of 588,000. The population of the AbaGusii stagnated ( as evidenced by the recent Kenyan census of 2009) due to intermarriage with members of other ethnic groups at 2.2 million.

Origin of Abagusii

The AbaGusii, as well as the Abaluyia ( Luhya ), explain that they come from Misri (Egypt). Your ancestors are said to be forced from Misiri, about 500 BC, emigrated.
