Kita-ku, Kyoto

Kita- ku (Japanese北区, dt " North District " ) is one of 11 districts ( ku ) of Kyoto, Japan. It is located north of the historic city center. It was created on 1 September 1955 as he was separated from Kamigyo -ku.

In Kita- ku are the Daitoku -ji (one of the main temple of the Rinzai school ), the Kamo Shrine ( one of the oldest shrines in Japan ), the Imamiya Shrine with the Yasurai hard, the Kinkaku -ji ( the Golden Pavilion, see picture) and the mountain Funaoka -yama. Moreover, the four universities Bukkyo, Kyoto Sangyo -, Ritsumeikan and Otani have their headquarters in the district.
