Kivalliq Region

Kivalliq Region ( Inuktitut: ᑭᕙᓪᓕᖅ ) is an administrative region of the Canadian territory of Nunavut.

It consists of a mainland portion west of Hudson Bay, and the islands of Southampton and Coats Iceland Iceland. Administrative center is the 2358 population of Rankin Inlet.

Prior to 1999, there was the Kivalliq region with slightly different boundaries essentially as Keewatin region and was part of the Northwest Territories. Although the name Kivalliq is officially since 1999, the area was referred to in publications such as the Census as " Keewatin Region, Nunavut " by Statistics Canada continues.
