Kivik

Kivik is a place in the Swedish municipality Simrishamn. It is located in the southern Swedish province of Skåne County and the historic province of Skane, on the Baltic coast.

The place is known for Kiviks marknad, with 150,000 visitors (2010) one of the largest fairs in Sweden. Nearby you will find the grave of Kivik and the National Park Stenshuvud. To Kivik around there are many apple orchards, whose income is processed into cider in the city and sold in Äpplemarknaden. Also, fishing is an important industry.

Near the town is the grave of Kivik and the grave field of Bredarör. This consists of a tight, 20 -meters- stone circle with a large central stone bowl and a 60 meter long stone ship with two middle blocks. It can still be a further 130 graves, most of which, however, are unimpressive.

Management

Kivik is both a tätort, as well as a församling ( " parish "). It is Kiviks tätort a state -administrative unit and as such the municipality Simrishamn ( Simrishamns kommun ) assumed during Kiviks församling a clerical -administrative unit and as such first Österlens is subject to contract and the then Lunds pin. Market Kivik

The market Kiviks Marknad takes place every third Wednesday of July for three days and is together with the markets of Sjöbo and Hörby one of the oldest markets in Sweden. With each year more than 100,000 visitors (2010: 150,000 ), he draws as many visitors as the Åsele marknad, "the greatest folk festival " of Norrland, which also takes place on the third weekend in July. Organizer of the market is a separate company, Kiviks Marknad AB. The market of Kivik is very old, it has its origin in activities of the Hanseatic League. 1866, the date of the market from August has been moved to July.
