Kjell Svensson

Kjell Gustaf Svensson ( born September 10, 1938 in Södertälje ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender.

Career

Kjell Svensson started his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Södertälje SK, for the first team, he was from 1954 to 1959 in Division 1, the then highest Swedish league, active. In the 1955/56 season he won the national championship with his team. Then the goalkeeper spent the season 1959/60 at Taberg SK in Division 2 before he was further two seasons for AIK Solna in Division 1 between the posts. From 1962 until his retirement in late 1969 he ran again for his hometown club Södertälje SK.

Internationally

For Sweden Svensson took part in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck at the Olympic Winter Games 1960. At the Winter Games in 1964 he won the silver medal with his team. In addition, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1967. During the 1965 World Cup he won with his team the bronze at the World Championships in 1963 and 1967, the silver medal. In the 1962 World Cup Svensson won the gold medal with Sweden. As the best European team, the team was also European champion.
