Kleinmond

Province

Kleinmond ( German: "little mouth " ) is a town with 6,634 inhabitants ( as of 2011) in the community over the beach, district Overberg, Western Cape Province in South Africa. The former fishing village located 25 kilometers northwest of Hermanus in the center of the Fynbos Floral Kingdom - a globally unique animal and plant life, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Name

As the mouth of the nearby river Botrivier was blocked for a long time by a sandbank, it flowed through a smaller side arm into the sea.

History

For about 20,000 years, this coastal area is populated. In 1860 the site was used as a summer resort of the farmer in Caledon, now come to the permanent residents in the holiday season still around 20,000 tourists added.
