Klimpfjäll

Klimpfjäll ( South Sami Klimhpe ) is a place ( småort ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the extreme south of the historic province of Lapland.

Geography

The place in vilhelmina municipality is 100 kilometers in a straight line to the northwest of Vilhelmina on the northwest shore of the lake Kultsjön, the entfließt the northern Hauptquellarm of Ångermanälven. Klimpfjäll is a good 20 kilometers from the Norwegian border and surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges: the up to 1406 m ö.h. Fjällfjället high in the north, the 1470 m ö.h. high Norra Borgafjällen in the southeast and the 1590 m ö.h. Marsfjällen high in the east. History

Klimpfjäll end of the 1820s was founded by settlers from Jonatan Björklund Bjurvattnet in Skellefteå. It quickly became a local center for trade with Norway. In the resort, a native of that time, built 1832-1860 Norwegenfahrerhof ( swedish Norgefarargården ) is obtained. Its heyday was the place in the 1970s to the 1980s, when near the summit Stekenjokk good 15 kilometers west a copper mine in the Boliden AB was in operation. Many of the workers lived in Klimpfjäll until the plant was closed in 1989. For the removal of the ore the street from Vilhelmina was paved and expanded over Klimpfjäll.

Today Klimpfjäll is winter in the first place. Several ski lifts lead ö.h. on the well 800 m high " mountain" Vajeklimpen on the western outskirts. There are several hotels ( Klimpfjäll, Klimpfjällsgården ) and other options. The place is also a regional cultural center of the Südsamen.
