Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur

Þróttur Reykjavík ( Isl: Knattspyrnufélagid Þróttur ) is an Icelandic sports club from Reykjavík. The association has, among other departments for football, basketball, handball and tennis.

Football

The club participated since its inception on August 5, 1949 often in the Friendly Tournament, the highest Icelandic Mr. football league, but could never establish there, however. So any rise followed soon the descent into the second highest league, very often after just one season ( last example 1998, 2003 and 2005). Last time played Þróttur in the 2009 season in the first division.

Currently the club plays in the first deild karla, the second highest Icelandic league.

Venue is the stadium Valbjarnarvöllur, which has a capacity of 2,500 spectators.
