Knights of Saint Columbanus

The Knights of Saint Columbanus ( German: Knights of Saint Columbanus ) are a knightly brotherhood in the Roman Catholic Church. They were founded in 1919 in Ireland.

History

The Brotherhood of Knights of Saint Columbanus was founded in 1915 by canon James K. O'Neill ( 1857-1928 ) in Belfast. Its founder was a special admirer of Pope Leo XIII. (1878-1903) published social encyclical Rerum Novarum and he endeavored practically address the social issues. Moreover, by Pope Pius X (1903-1914) published opinion to lay apostolate (see encyclical Il Fermo proposito ) and the Catholic Action had inspired him. Therefore, he wanted to set up a corresponding association of the faithful. It began with lectures on Catholic social teaching and concluded with the founding of the Knights of St. Columbanus from in 1915. The motto of the fraternity is " omnia in Christo Instaurare " ( German: Everything in Christ renew ) and refers to the letter to the Ephesians 4.24 EU.

Organization

The Supreme Council ( Supreme Council) is the governing body of the brotherhood and consists of the Board and its members. Members are the Chairman, the Executive Council, all former chairman, the provincial councils and their deputies, and four assessors. The Executive Board of the Supreme Council consists of the

  • Director ( Supreme Warden ) and
  • Registrar ( Registrar Supreme )

The geographical structure of the Brotherhood is divided into 12 provinces, these include a total of 26 local groups. The provinces are headed by Provincial Councils and local groups of local councils, both with their respective boards. Since March 1923, the Brotherhood has its headquarters in the historic " Ely House " in Dublin.

To fulfill its objectives, the Brotherhood joined the following organizations: the International Alliance of Catholic Knights and the International Council of Catholic Men
