Knights of Saint Mulumba

The Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba (Short form: Knights of Saint Mulumba, Abbreviation: KSM, German: Order of the Knights of the Holy Mulumba ) is a Roman Catholic lay order in Nigeria. It was founded in 1953 and is a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights. The association of the faithful, in the form of a brotherhood, belong to more than 20 000 men and women.

History and Mission

Your foundation and inspiration saw the founders of religious orders in the past the Crusaders. The properties of the Christian knights they see applied to today's world, confirmed the same extent. But this is not an accepted by the Holy See Knights. The Order was founded on June 14, 1953 by Pastor Abraham Anselm Isidahome Ojefua CSsR in Onitsha as an " association of the faithful ". As a model was considered the founding fathers of the Brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus, the ready in the U.S. had a large supply in the African Americans. On 24 June 1978 the Ladies of Saint Mulumba (LSM ), a female branch was installed. Since 2008 there is also a religious division in Cameroon. The objectives of the Association are based on two pillars: first, the Order seeks to avert by secret societies, the damage caused by the church and the influence they have exercised on the Christians to act against. And second, they want to unite Catholic Christians, therefore pursue interfaith dialogue and promote cooperation with the clergy.

Eponym

The namesake Matiya Mulumba (1836-1886) was a Catholic who has been actively involved in the construction of the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda. He was killed brutally on 30 May 1886, is one of the 22 Catholic, a total of 45 Ugandan martyrs. The 22 Catholic martyrs were in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. blessed and during the Second Vatican Council in 1964 by Pope Paul VI. canonized.

Organisation and membership

Order members - can be a practicing Catholic men and women - regardless of their education and their profession. The order consists, with stock of 2013, out of 199 sub-groups (sub councils ) which include about 10 000 knights and 9800 women. He is since 1985 the carrier Mulumba Assurance Companie and associated with the International Alliance of Catholic Knights ( IACK ) and the International Council of Catholic Men ( Unum Omnes ).

Branches and levels

Divided the Order is in " councils " or " councils " ( Councils ), these councils meetings are divided into sub-districts ( Subordinate Councils ), in the main districts (Metropolitan Council ) and the Supreme Council ( Supreme Council). The supreme body is the Supreme Council, it is composed of the President ( Supreme Knight: Currently brother Anthony C. Onuh ); the Board ( Supreme Officers ); the Chairman ( Grand Knights ) of the main areas with their secretaries, cashiers and justiciars as well as the chairman of the sub-districts with their secretaries and cashiers. From this, the Executive Committee ( Executive Board) is formed, which includes all board members, the chairmen of the main districts and all former presidents. The membership is divided into four ascending levels.
