Knik Glacier

The glacier is located 70 km east of Anchorage on the western flank of Mount Marcus Baker. It empties into Lake George and the upper reaches of Knik River, which flows into the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlets.

Until the 1960s, the Knik Glacier grew up in the winter to the flank of Mount Palmer and dammed the Lake George on. By increasing water pressure and higher temperatures it came every summer to a glacier run, which caused a tidal wave in the Knik River.
