Mount Marcus Baker is with 4016 m the highest mountain in the Chugach Mountains in southern Alaska, 121 kilometers east of Anchorage. Due to its proximity to the coast his saddle height is 3269 meters, so it belongs in this regard to the 75 highest mountains in the world. On its western flank lies about 40 km long Knik Glacier.

Originally, the mountain was named Mount Saint Agnes, which was given to him on the authority of Bradford Washburn by James W. Bagley, a national of the United States Geological Survey, based on the first name of his wife. He was later renamed in honor of cartographers and geologists Marcus Baker on its current name.

The first ascent of Mount Marcus Baker was held under the direction of Bradford Washburn on June 19, 1938. Today's most commonly used route to the summit passes over the northern flank. Although the mountain is not as high as Mount McKinley, his ascent through the remote location and the associated long on and with this increase is comparable.
