Kobuvirus

The genus Kobuvirus currently includes two species of non-enveloped viruses of the family Picornaviridae. The genus name comes from the Japanese word kobu ( " ankle " ) in order to describe the characteristic surface structures of these viruses.

Properties

The species of the genus Kobuvirus differ from other members of the Picornavridae by a very long poly -A tail of 270 nt and a very high proportion of the nucleotides guanine and cytosine ( G / C ) content of 59%. All species have at the 5 ' end of its RNA genome, a hairpin structure, which is necessary for viral replication and packaging of the genome of importance. Very typical of Kobuviren is their eye-catching structure when shown in the electron microscope. In contrast to other picornaviruses, the capsid of icosahedral symmetry can be seen clearly in the outer mold. The Kobuviren have a diameter of 27-30 nm

The Aichi virus has been associated in humans with a viral gastroenteritis after the consumption of crustaceans.
