Kocatepe Mosque

The Kocatepe Mosque ( Kocatepe Camii Turkish ) is the largest mosque in the Turkish capital Ankara. It is located in the Quartier Kocatepe, south of the old town.

The construction of the mosque began in 1967 after plans for a modern mosque by architect Vedat Dalokay, which were later abandoned in favor of a mosque in a classic style to designs by Husrev Tayla. It was completed in 1987. It is modeled with four minarets and a large dome classical Ottoman mosques. In the basement of the mosque there is a modern department store, serve the rental income from the financing of the mosque.
