Koch Bihar

Cooch Behar ( Koch Bihar, Bengali: কোচবিহার, Kocbihār ) was one of the princely states of Bengal province of British India in what is now the state of West Bengal. Its capital was the site of Cooch Behar.

Established in 1250 the Principality was ruled from 1510 by Maharaja Cook ( Cooch ) dynasty. Chandan Narayan (1510-1523) enlarged the Principality and Nar Narayan (1554-1587) conquered Manipur and Tripura even. Pran Narayan (1626-1665) fought against the Mughal empire in Bengal, and Dhaka conquered in 1661, but was forced to close in 1664 peace. Rup Narayan (1693-1714) moved the capital from Athaokotha after Guriahati Gram, today's Bihar. Cooch Behar was occupied from 1765 to 1772 and from 1773 to 1947 of Bhutan British protectorate. It had in 1941 an area of ​​3413 km ² and 678,000 inhabitants.
