The Kodiak Launch Complex ( KLC also ) is a commercial rocket launch site in Alaska. It is located on the island of Kodiak in the field of Narrow Cape. The Kodiak Launch Complex is part of the Alaska Aerospace Development Corporation and is designed for the launch of solid rocket. Until now, there was a small number of suborbital launches for military testing of the " Ballistic Missile Defense Organization " ( BMDO ) and an orbital launch of an Athena I rocket and two orbital launch of the Minotaur IV from 2001 to 2008, STARS missile to the target representation for missile defense tests launched from Kodiak launch Center.

Infrastructure

The Kodiak Launch Complex includes two launch complexes ( Launch Pad ) with the names of LP-1 and LP -2, and a control center.

Control

Housed in a shed Control ( Launch Control Center ) contains the technical facilities to control the start, as well as facilities for weather observation and 60 office spaces.

Starting places

Launch Pad 1 (LP -1)

The first starting point is the start of larger solid rocket based on the Peacekeeper and castor -120 rocket engines. Missiles based on the Minuteman rocket motors can also start from here. This number consists of an assembly hall for the preparation of the rockets and payloads, as well as the launching pad. This is a Tower ( Launch Service Structure) with swiveling maintenance platforms. When closed, the maintenance platforms surround the rocket fully and grant as a protection against environmental influences. At the start they are pivoted to a position behind the launch tower so that they are not damaged by the fire beam and the pressure waves of the rocket launches. So far made three orbital launch rockets of the types Athena I, Minotaur IV HAPS and Minotaur IV .

Launch Pad 2 (LP -2)

The second starting point is for starting up small rockets and consists of a simple launch pad and a nearby moving assembly hall, which can be rolled on the launch table. Thus, the missile can be protected from the elements assembled and erected. A maintenance platform at the start table does not exist. From here previously launched suborbital rockets of the types of SR -19 M- 57A, Castor 4B M- 57A, Aries and STARS.
