The bladder Ash ( Koelreuteria paniculata ), also ( Rispiger ) bubble tree called, is a flowering plant in the family of Soapberry ( Sapindaceae ). She is from China and is the best known of the three species in the genus Koelreuteria.

Description

The bubble ash grows as a deciduous tree or shrub. It reaches heights of growth to about 14 meters and trunk diameter of about 50 centimeters. The bark of the trunk is rough and brown with narrow orange furrows. The tree crown is relatively slender with arched ascending branches. The bark of young branches is light copper brown. The leaf buds are about 2 mm in size.

The change-constant leaves are up to 35 cm long and imparipinnate with 7 to 15 leaflets. The leaflets are ovate oblong and 3 to 8 inches long; the leaves are deeply toothed to pinnatifid. The leaf stem is red. The fresh leaves appear in mid-May is initially dark red. The fall color of the foliage is yellow to orange.

The flowers appear in mid-August in loose upright paniculate inflorescences. The individual flowers are about 1 cm tall and yellow.

The fruit capsules have a yellow-green at first, later light brown paper-like, bubble -shaped shell. The pericarp is about 4 to 5 inches long and dreiklappig; it contains three black seeds.

Occurrence

The bubble ash is native to many parts of China; their reserves are found in the provinces of Anhui, Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Zhejiang.

The bubble ash is reliably hardy in Central Europe and is often planted in parks and gardens as an ornamental tree.
