Koji Omi

Koji Omi (in Japanese尾 身 幸 次, Koji Omi, born December 14, 1932 in Numata, Gunma Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP). From 2006 to 2007 he was Minister of Finance in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Omi is a member of the party within the Machimura faction.

Omi in 1956 with his degree from Hitotsubashi University, and was then an official in the MITI. Between 1970 and 1974, Omi was consul at the Japanese Consulate General New York. In 1982, he left the ministry to compete as an independent in the general election in 1983. Omi was elected and joined the LDP. He was then confirmed seven times as an MP, most recently in 2005 on the proportional representation block North Kantō - he shared the LDP candidate in the first constituency Gunma after " Costa Rica " method ( Kosuta America hōshiki ) with Gen'ichirō Sata. In the 2009 election Shūgiin Omi lost the constituency and thus his seat in Parliament.

From 1997 to 1998, Omi chairman of the Economic Planning Authority, 2000-2001 Minister for Science and Technology Policy, Okinawa and the Northern Territories, and finally from 16 September 2006 until the reshuffle of August 27, 2007 Minister of Finance.
