Kol Torah

Kol Torah Talmud is a high school in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Bayit Vegan, Israel, which was founded in 1939. The name means voice of the Torah.

History

The Yeshiva Kol Torah was founded in 1939 by Rabbi Dr. Yechiel Michel Schlesinger (* 1898 in Hamburg, † 1948) founded and Rabbi Boruch Kunstadt, an Orthodox judges from Fulda. It was the first charedische yeshiva that taught in the Hebrew language, as opposed to the then usual Yiddish in the yeshivot of the Hasidim. This innovation had the crucial support of the Chazon Ish. According to Rabbi Schlesinger's death in 1949, the yeshiva of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach was headed until his death in 1995.

Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Schlesinger Currently, the eldest son of the founder, head of the yeshiva. Kol Torah currently has over 1,000 students. Rabbi Yeshaya Portnoy is dean of the American program.
