Kolkata derby

Boro Match ( Bengali: বড় ম্যাচ Bara myāc, dt great match ) is the name for the derby between the football clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the Indian city of Calcutta. It is one of the most traditional rivalries in Asian football.

Culturally, the Derby the Old Firm, the clash between Celtic and Glasgow Rangers is like. Here, as there, the rivalry is characterized not only by sporting aspects, but also a " duel of the natives against immigrants ", which focused also have different religious affiliations in both cases.

History

Mohun Bagan, also known as Mariners, was founded in 1889 and is one of the oldest football clubs in Asia. He is traditionally supported mainly by the Indians in the state of West Bengal, but has fans in all parts of the country and is in the multi-ethnic state in India as an association of the Hindus. His rival East Bengal was established in 1920, Red & Gold Brigade, originally represented the eastern part of Bengal and is traditionally supported by the numerous immigrants from Bangladesh.
