Köllerbach (Saar)

Köllerbach at Völklingen

The Köllerbach is a 19 km long, orographic right tributary of the Saar Saarland, Germany. He is the head waters of the Köllertal.

Geography

The Köllerbach rises at an altitude of 300 m above sea level. NN about 1.7 km north-east of Eiweiler, a district of Heusweiler, on the southwest edge of the 338 m high mountain swan. From here, the creek flows primarily to the south, reached after a short run, the already mentioned Eiweiler where discharges from the left of the Koeller Wieser Bach and a little later from the right of the Shepherds creek.

About 1 km further downstream, between Hirtel and Kirschhof, the Köllerbach crosses under at the junction Heusweiler the Federal Highway 8 and reached a little later Heusweiler. At its southern outskirts opens on the right side of the approaching end of the West Salbach. Approximately 600 m to the south reached the creek the city limits of Walpershofen where flows from the left to the choice of Bach, south of Walpershofen then turn left the Dörschbach.

The Köllerbach then flows through Köllerbach where Hermes Bach, Sell Erbach and Shepherd creek flow to and Nailsworth, where reached him of the right Wimbach. After crossing of the Völklingen Köllerbach opens at 195 m above sea level. NN of the right of the Carolingian bridge in the Saar.

On its 19 km long road of Bach overcomes a difference in altitude of 105 m, with an average bed slope of 5.5 ‰. It has a catchment area of about 79 km ².

Name

Legend has it that the name herstamme of the charcoal burners who lived in the forests of Köllertals and worked. The Koehler valley shall be then become the Köllerbach.

In fact, the creek is but named after the oldest place of Kolln Köllertals. As with the city of Cologne (Latin " Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium " ) whose name goes back to a Roman name with part of Colonia. A Roman settlement was located at the edge of Köllertals, in Püttlinger district knight street. The Köllner stream in Köllner valley was then colloquially to Köllerbach in Köllertal.
