The breakpoint Cologne Hansa ring is a breakpoint and part of the station about a kilometer eastern Cologne Central Station.

A few hundred meters west of the operating station Cologne Hansa ring closes at turning plant. Here branches off the S- Bahn line in the direction of Neuss Köln- Nippes and Cologne Choir hamlet on the links Niederrheinische distance from the parallel to the high-speed line between Cologne and Aachen out, S- Bahn line to Düren via Cologne -Ehrenfeld and Cologne -Weiden from.

Breakpoint and operating station together form the western end of the main line of the S -Bahn Cologne. The breakpoint is served on weekdays every hour from 28 trains and is therefore classified by DB Station & Service in the train station category 4. The S- Bahn trains stop here on a central platform, which has a length of 145 meters.

A large part of the platform is located on the bridge over the eponymous street Hansa ring, lead to all entrances. In the middle strip of the Hansa ring is a covered -way connection between the S-Bahn Cologne Hansa Square and Metro Station Hansa ring of light rail Cologne.

History

The breakpoint Cologne Hansa ring has a long railway past. Already in 1859 crossed at this point the initial leg of the new Central Station, the medieval city wall. After the demolition of the city walls in 1881 a wide ring road, which was designated in this area based on the past as a Hanseatic city of Cologne as Hansa ring was formed. The construction of the new central train station the tracks were lifted in 1889 by six meters. On the Hansa ring was at that time already a horse railroad, from 1903 as a tram.

In the early 1970s, the Hansa ring for the light rail Cologne was tunneled; the thereby formed underground station in a simple depth position was opened to traffic on 25 August 1974. For the S -Bahn, the railway line on the north side two tracks has been extended. Here, the S- Bahn stop was at the same time received the metro station, a second access as a link with the new S-Bahn station and on two -thirds of its length, a high platform. The inauguration of the station was on 27 May 1990. During the Easter holidays in 2003 half of the high platform was built back in order to allow the use of low-floor vehicles in double traction on the ring route.
