Köln West Railway Station is located in the northwestern edge of the city center of Cologne in the district of Neustadt-Nord at Venloerstraße. The station is mass transit system maintenance and lies at the Cologne railway ring (part of the Left Rhine line ). The station has two platform tracks at a 303 -meter-long central platform and Platform -less eight tracks, which are used for intensive freight traffic.

History

Since the opening of the Cologne Central Station in 1859 led its connection to the left Rhine line on the inside of the city wall in the area of today's rings along. As from 1881, the city walls and the new town was laid out, this required the same time a reorganization of the railway lines. On January 9, 1883, the City Council approved the relocation of the railway track on a dam that was further from the center than before. This dam led to the inside of the new interior actual walls along the New Town, where at all exit roads underpasses were built. Along the new, built under the direction of Ernst Dircksen distance, arisen two railway stations: Cologne West ( spelling to 1914: Cologne West) and Köln Süd. Both stations were opened in 1891. The facade of the reception building largely corresponded to the appearance preserved until today, however, situated on the embankment of a platform area that spanned the passenger train tracks and the platform with waiting room.

Stretch

The passenger railroad disconnect immediately north of the station from each other. While the northward direction leading track is led directly to Cologne main station, travels around the track in a southward direction wide arc operating station to the north, resulting in almost 500 meters greater route length. The freight train tracks separate the northern head of Cologne West at the same height in the routes to Cologne -Ehrenfeld and on to the high-speed line Cologne - Aachen and Cologne -Nippes and farther than links Niederrheinische route. In addition, branches of the goods tracks from the so-called pharyngeal track leading through the grounds of the degraded freight station Cologne Gereon by several underpasses in the operation of the station.

Equipment

The platform of Köln West is 38 centimeters high and thus the lowest of all Cologne passenger stations. New LC destination displays are available since autumn 2007. On the platform there are two lifts, both of which lead to the Venloerstraße and on the platforms of the U-Bahn stop.

Metro Station Hans-Böckler-Platz/Bf. west

Located at right angles under the Köln West station, the bus stop Hans-Böckler-Platz/Bf. West Stadtbahn Köln, which is served by lines 3, 4 and 5. Besides staircase access from the forecourt of the station by two lift shafts is directly connected to the station. At the western end of the station, the line height 5 separates free from lines 3 and 4, wherein the switch is still towards the city center on a train station. The remaining 30 -cm platform sections were once used the line 5, on the run since 2002, but high-floor cars, and only the 90 - cm - Bahnteigabschnitte be used. Since almost all stops are converted to high-level platforms towards the city center now, a passenger operation with low-floor trains now no longer possible.
