Köln West Railway Station is located in the northwestern edge of the city center of Cologne in the district of Neustadt-Nord at Venloerstraße. The station is mass transit system maintenance and lies at the Cologne railway ring (part of the Left Rhine line ). History

Since the opening of the Cologne Central Station in 1859 led its connection to the left Rhine line on the inside of the city wall in the area of ​​today's rings along. As from 1881, the city walls and the new town was laid out, this required the same time a reorganization of the railway lines. On January 9, 1883, the City Council approved the relocation of the railway track on a dam that was further from the center than before. This dam led to the inside of the new interior actual walls along the New Town, where at all exit roads underpasses were built. Along the new, built under the direction of Ernst Dircksen distance, arisen two railway stations: Cologne West ( spelling to 1914: Cologne West) and Köln Süd. Both stations were opened in 1891. The facade of the reception building largely corresponded to the appearance preserved until today, however, situated on the embankment of a platform area that spanned the passenger train tracks and the platform with waiting room.
