Ernst Dircksen

Ernst Dircksen ( born May 31, 1831 in Gdansk, † May 11, 1899 in Erfurt; Complete name: Ernst August Dircksen ) was a German civil engineer.

Life

Ernst Dircksen studied in Berlin, Academy for Engineering. In 1867 he was operating supervisor in Upper Silesia. His department was the construction of railway lines and railway bridges.

On July 15, 1878 it the construction management of the newly configured Berlin metropolitan railway was transferred from the Royal Directorate of Berlin's railway. To April 1, 1883 Dircksen was transferred to the left bank of the Rhine as a department director, with simultaneous appointment as town planner, to the Royal Railway Directorate Cologne, to direct the railways to be carried out in their service area and to promote also the development of the Cologne railway infrastructure in particular. In the same position then took place in November 1890 its implementation to the railway department Erfurt.

At the Berlin Friedrichstrasse railway station Dircksen was built by his students and colleagues, in 1902, a monument with a bronze bust. Its creator was the sculptor Ludwig Brunow. The monument no longer exists.

In Berlin -Mitte parallel to he planned light rail running between Hackescher Markt and Jannowitzbruecke street is named after him.

His youngest son was the Civil Dircksen Friedrich ( 1874-1907 ).
