Kolontár

Kolontár ( German Korntal ) is a municipality in the small area Devecser within the county Veszprém in western Hungary.

The village was mentioned in writing in 1210 for the first time, during the Mongol invasions greatly depopulated and built by German colonists again.

On 4 October 2010 the MAL AG (Magyar Aluminium ) occurred in based in the city of Ajka aluminum plant, a major industrial accident, the so-called Kolontár - dam failure. From the approximately 1 km from Kolontár remote landfill basin occurred 600000-700000 cubic meters of caustic, containing heavy red mud and flooded about 800 acres of land, including the majority of the place Kolontár partly waist. Ten people died in the accident, 150 were injured.
