Koncerthuset

The Copenhagen Concert Hall (DR Koncerthuset ) is the new Concert Hall of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and an outstanding example of international contemporary architecture. It is part of the complex DR Byen, the headquarters of the transmitter, and is located in the north of Copenhagen Ørestad district on the island of Amager. The planned by the French architect Jean Nouvel building was opened in January 2009 after ten years of planning.

History

The planning started in 1999. The construction was associated with scandals, as incorrectly calculated cost of materials and other miscalculations of Parisian architecture firm of Jean Nouvel were initially withheld. There were also structural engineering surprises. For example, the earth was on Amager much softer than expected, so that the concert hall had to be anchored in the ground consuming. For the construction of the building were estimated at 600 million crowns; at the end of the project cost 1.7 billion kroner ( approximately 230 million euros ). As the policy of refusing further payments because of budget overruns, had the Danish broadcasting the completion of finance alone. Its director general resigned. After two -year delay of the main hall was opened in the presence of the royal family and the government on 17 January 2009 at a concert ( among others, the opera singer Bo Skovhus ).

Buildings and Architecture

The cube-shaped building has a blue fiberglass facade and is 45 m high, 100 m long and 45 m wide. It lets in the suspended on three stair towers and resting on six columns concrete construction of the hall. In the interior are a huge foyer and four connected by wide corridors differently sized concert halls. The largest of which holds 1,800 visitors and has a height of 24 m. Highlighted Pungent is the form. There are no right angles; in the harmonious erdfarbig glowing auditorium is in different radii curved and arched everything. The meteor in Peter Høegs novel Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow had encouraged Nouvel to design the great hall as if he were floating freely in the air, " almost as if he had fallen from heaven, and had then driven into the ground of Amager ". In three smaller halls rock, pop and jazz events. On the facade, the cobalt blue lights at night, the internal events can be transmitted by means of oversized light projections to the outside.

The Japanese Yasuhisa Toyota has created the acoustic concept. A 75 -ton adjustable acoustic sails floating over the orchestra stage and to precisely regulate the acoustics. Finally, the acoustics of the main hall was clearly exposed criticism. Niels Vilhelm Jordan and Peter Møller Juhl judged after extensive test measurements, the use of perforated plasterboard and construction of a strangers' gallery modeled on the Berlin Philharmonic were errors and prevented a reverberation time of more than two seconds. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board Michael Christiansen dismissed the allegations.

Concert organ

The organ was built in the years 2003 to 2009 by the organ builder van den Heuvel. The instrument has 91 registers to four manual and pedal works and is the largest organ in Denmark.
