Konrad Pellikan

Konrad Pelikan, ( born 8 January 1478 in Rufach, Alsace, † April 6, 1556 in Zurich ) also Pellikan Konrad, Konrad Kürsner, Pellikan Conrad, Conrad Kürsner, Conrad Pellican, Konrad Pellican, was a Reformed theologian and reformer.

Life

Pelican had to study very hard. The economic circumstances of the parents were so poor that he could not even Donat, a popular college textbook for sale. It was not until 1491 he managed to come to Heidelberg, but his uncle could only entertain him a short time there. So he had no choice but to go to the monastery.

1493 he joined the Franciscans and came after three years of Tübingen, where he attended lectures on philosophy and Hebrew learned. With meager tools equipped, he acquired gradually by iron diligence thorough knowledge. Johannes Reuchlin supported his efforts to create a Hebrew dictionary, which was published in Strasbourg in 1504. Meanwhile, he had become a lecturer in the Franciscan monastery in Basel and gradually rose to the Guardian.

Around 1520, he decided on the new doctrine, and in 1523 appointed by the Council in Basel professor. But when he was appointed in 1525 Zurich, he followed this call. Now he took the cowl and married. Until his death he worked in Zurich, where he served as a Bible translator and explainer important services. His Bibelwerk Commentaria Bibliorum is the only complete Bible work of the Reformation period. Him it was because to get good relations with other scholars.

In humanistic circles, he enjoyed a reputation undivided. Since he was a close friend of Ulrich Zwingli, he distanced himself understandably of Martin Luther and seized a letter to his doctrine of the Eucharist party. Family

Konrad Pelikan's sister Elizabeth was the mother of Conrad Lycosthenes ( 1518-1561 ). The humanist Jost Hahn ( Jodocus Gallus ) (c. 1459-1517 ) was his uncle.
