Konrad von Ammenhausen

Konrad Ammenhausen was a Benedictine monk and later secular priest in Stein am Rhein, who lived in the first half of the 14th century.

Life

He came from the area of Stein am Rhein. His exact survival data are unknown. He is busy 1324-1325.

He became famous for his 1337 book consummate chess Zabel, a German rhyme version of the work of Jacobus de Cessolis, Liber de moribus hominum et officiis nobilum ac popularium super ludo scacchorum. Konrad himself writes that he niht at the time of writing his book was even old ( still young ).

His version gained a lot of popularity and is available in over 20 manuscripts and numerous incunabula. It was reprinted from the 16th century and again.
