Konstantin Makovsky

Konstantin Makovsky Jegorowitsch (Russian Константин Егорович Маковский, scientific transliteration Konstantin Egorovic Makovskij; * 20 Junijul / July 2 1839greg in Moscow, .. .. † 17 Septemberjul / September 30 1915greg in Petrograd ) was a Russian painter and member the group of migrant exhibitors. His brother was the painter Vladimir Makovsky.

Biography

Konstantin Makovsky was born the son of Yegor Makovsky, one of the founders of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Constantine graduated in 1857. He continued his education in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts where he could reveal his talent soon. For his first historical painting agents of the False Demetrius kill Fyodor Godunov he got 1862 Small gold medal. Formally, he never completed the Academy since 1863, he participated in a student revolt. However, a few years later he was awarded the title of Academician, professor and member of the Academy of Arts. In 1870, he became one of the founders of the Peredvizhniki cooperative.

Makowski was a master of portraiture and genre painting, he painted a large number of different human types and scenes from everyday life of the common people. One of the most famous images that came from his workshop, one of the Maslenitsa festival on the Admiralty Square in St. Petersburg ( 1869). He gave this picture a monumental bandwidth and presented in the image of " all Petersburg ". End of the 1870s took place in the factory Makowski a departure from contemporary themes. His favorite genre was the history, especially of Russian life in the 16th and 17th century.

Makowski died in 1915 in a traffic accident, when his carriage was hit by a tram.
