Konstantin Shayne

Konstantin Shayne (Russian Константин Шэйн; born November 29, 1888 in Kharkov, Russian Empire, † November 15, 1974 in Los Angeles, California ) was a Russian- American actor.

Life and work

Konstantin Shayne was born in Kharkov, which is located in what is now Ukraine, but at that time was in the Russian Empire. During the First World War he served in vain against the communists in the army of General Wrangel. Eventually moved Shayne from Russia to the United States around. There he gave in 1938 at the age of 50, his film debut. Because of his strong accent Shayne was in the role of the often threatening or mysterious foreigner, mainly Russians occupied.

In 1946, he played a chastened Nazis in the thriller The trace of the stranger, who dominated the first 15 minutes of the film, but then by Orson Welles character is murdered. He also embodied a bookseller in Alfred Hitchcock's classic film Vertigo, which is well informed about historical anecdotes of San Francisco. On television, Shayne appeared in series such classics as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 77 Sunset Strip. By 1965 Shayne appeared in some 50 film and television productions.

Konstantin Shayne's sister was the Tamara Shayne (1902-1983), who was married to character actor Akim Tamiroff and with whom he also appeared in Vienna fate in the film. He was married twice and had children. Konstantin Shayne died at the age of 85 years in Los Angeles.
