Kontakion

The Kontakion designated next to the Troparion and canon one of the early hymn forms. In this vielstrophigen structure after an introduction ( the so-called kukulion ) followed by 20-40 stanzas same structure ( the so-called oikoi, houses). Following the example of St. Ephrem in the 4th century were sealed and sung in the 6th century this predominantly of Sophronius of Jerusalem, Sergios of Byzantium and the Holy Romanos Melodos.
