Konzum

Konzum is Croatia's largest retail chain.

About the Company

The Konzum has more than 700 stores and employs around 11,400 employees. Every day, there is a more than 650,000 customers. In addition to the retail operates Konzum since 2003 21 wholesale markets under the name Velpro (similar to the German Metro Cash & Carry). About this wholesale more than 20,000 small grocer in Croatia are supplied. At the drugstore, the company is building a retail chain under the name Kozmo on with currently 73 markets and a Kozmo vending machine. Konzum expanding outside of the Croatian home market in Serbia ( under the brand Idea ) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ( under the brand Konzum ). With a share of 82.95 % of the Agrokor Group is the largest shareholder of the company.

In addition to branded products offers Konzum to under the trademark K Plus canned fruits, canned fish, sausage, cheese, beer, toiletries, fruit juices, coffee and tea. The retail company has three distribution centers in Zagreb, Porec and Split from where the markets are supplied with goods.

History

Under the name Unikonzum opened in 1957 the first supermarket in Zagreb. In 1970 Unikonzum opened the four merged retail chains Črnomerec, Konzum, Moslavka and Slavonia. Unikonzum was converted into a corporation in 1992. The Agrokor Group took over the company in May 1994. A year later Unikonzum was renamed Konzum in the still valid company name. After the company was represented throughout the years only in Zagreb area was opened in 2000 the first stores outside of this region, including in Pula, Crikvenica, Split, Bjelovar, Varaždin and Karlovac. Simultaneously, a new logistics center, which was at that time claims to be the largest in Southeastern Europe was put into operation in Zagreb.

Konzum in 2001 resulted in his trademark K Plus and opened four Super Konzum called large supermarkets, including two in Zagreb, one in a split. Poreč and Since December 1995 there was a Super Konzum in Zagreb. The company established in 2002 its own loyalty program and expanded in the direction of Dalmatia. The expansion continued in 2003 with the opening of 70 new stores and an increase in the number of employees from 5,000 to 7,000 employees. Since 2005 sales points of Konzum in all parts of Croatia are available. In 2006 the company opened its biggest store named Super Konzum Tower Centar Rijeka. 2009 was followed by a further nine Super Konzum markets after 2007 already 67 new Konzum stores were opened. Since 2011 builds Konzum in Dugopolje another logistics and distribution center with an area of 85,000 m², which claims to be the largest in the region.

Markets

Konzum operates under its own brand three different types of markets (June 2013):

  • Under the name Konzum operate smaller markets, which account for the majority of the Croatian branch network.
  • Under the name Konzum Maxi currently operate in Croatia 32 mid-sized markets.
  • The Super Konzum stores, of which there are currently 52 in Croatia are the largest by area markets the company dar.
