Kookaburra (rocket)

The kookaburra is an Australian sounding rocket, consisting of a lupus - start stage and a Musca - second stage, which was produced between 1969 /70 and 1975.

The rocket was launched in 1970 and replaced the HAD rocket. It was taken in 1975 with the setting of the Australian high altitude research program out of service. After the launch of the rocket, a sensor package was ejected at a height of some 75 kilometers, which fell through the atmosphere and thereby chronicled data.

The rocket was used in versions Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 and was 1969-1976 started 33 times. Starting positions were Woomera and Gan Iceland.
