Kopassus

Kopassus ( Komando Pasukan Khusus ) is a special unit of the Army of the Indonesian armed forces. Their headquarters is located in Cijantung in the east of Jakarta. The roughly 5,000 -strong force is used in the case of sabotage, for military intelligence in kidnapping or hostage rescue.

History

The idea of ​​a special unit goes back to the two Indonesian officers Slamet Riyadi and Colonel Lieutenant Alex Evart Kawilaran when they fought in 1949 units of the former colonial power, the Netherlands in the Moluccas.
