Kosta Khetagurov

Konstantin ( Kosta ) Lewanowitsch Chetagurow ( Ossetian Хетæгкаты Леуаны фырт Къоста / Xetægkaty Leuany fýrt Khosta, [ χetəgkatɨ lewanɨ fɨrt kosta ], Russian Константин ( Коста ) Леванович Хетагуров; * 3 Oktoberjul / October 15 1859greg in Nar, North Ossetia, .. † 19 Märzjul. / April 1 1906greg. Georgijewsko in - Ossetinskoje, today Karachay -Cherkessia ) was a national poet of Ossetia. He is generally regarded as the founder of modern Ossetian literature. He was also a talented painter.

Biography

Chetagurow was born in the mountain village Nar in present-day North Ossetia-Alania. His father was Levan Elisbarowitsch Chetagurow. His mother Maria Gavrilovna Gubajewa died shortly after his birth. He attended the Stavropol High School from 1871 to 1881 and began studying at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1881, but the study had 1885 due to financial difficulties. Back in Ossetia, he was a well-known poet whose poems were soon ossetischsprachige orally disseminated in Ossetia. He also published poems, stories and articles in Russian language newspapers Severny Kavkaz (of him published by 1893-1902 ) and Mount Kazbek. His paintings also attained great popularity. One represented St. Nino, a Georgian saint of the 4th century and was highly valued in Georgia.

Because of his criticism of the imperial Russian government, he was exiled twice (1891-1896, 1899-1902 ). He contracted tuberculosis. The last exile affected his health very much and prevented him from pursuing its artistic and social work. In 1905 he moved to his sister after Georgiewsko - Ossetinskoje (now Kosta - Khetagurovo in Karachay-Cherkessia ), where he died shortly thereafter in 1906.

Work

1899 Chetagurow gave his collection Ирон фæндыр (Iron Fændyr, " Ossetian Poetry " ) out, in which the first children's poems were included in Ossetian language. In 1894 his book Особа ( Osoba, "the person "), which is the folklore of the Ossetians of lasting value.
