Kötschlitz is a district of the town Leuna in Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt ( Germany ).

Geography

Kötschlitz lies north of the Elster -Saale- channel between Merseburg and Leipzig, south Günther village joins.

The western end of the channel is located a few hundred meters west of Kötschlitz.

History

In 1299, the first mention of the church was as Koziliz in Hersfelder Ten register. On 26 10 1937 the spelling Kötzschlitz in Kötschlitz was changed.

The district Zschöchergen 1659 was affected by witch hunts. The blacksmith Hans Schneider lamented in a witch trial, because he accused a woman to own a dragon.

On 1 October 1965, the formerly independent neighboring communities Horburg and Maßlau were incorporated. On May 6, 1990, she was dismissed as a community Horburg- Maßlau back to independence.

From 2006 to 2009 Kötschlitz belonged to the administrative community Leuna Kötzschau. Until December 30, 2009 Kötschlitz was an independent municipality with the associated hamlets Möritzsch and Zschöchergen. On 31 December 2009 Kötschlitz was incorporated into the city Leuna. The community Kötschlitz comprised three villages that were previously independent. It is Kötschlitz, Zschöchergen and Möritzsch.
