KPDF

With the KPDF KDE program PDF documents can be viewed under KDE. KPDF used the program library Xpdf and can be compared with the Adobe Reader from Adobe. Like all other KDE programs, it is free software available under the GNU General Public License.

The universal document viewer Okular replaces KPDF since KDE 4.0.

Special

KPDF gives users the ability to search text passages as well as to highlight. Selected texts or marked images can then be copied to the clipboard for further processing in other programs. Furthermore, PDF files can be viewed in a special presentation mode, in which only the contents of the files are displayed without the rest of the desktop environment.

The tight integration of KPDF with KDE manifests itself, inter alia, that the speech synthesis unit can be used by KDE to them read PDF files. Likewise KPDF can be loaded as a plugin within the browser Konqueror to display PDF files in the browser.

KPDF allowed (as opposed to Adobe Reader) that open files are changed by other programs. This makes it suitable to display from LaTeX generated documents and to automatically update.

In addition, KPDF suitable for browsing large PDF files. During the first search, an index of the PDF document is created can be edited with the other queries greatly accelerated.
