Kramfors

Kramfors is a city in Sweden and capital of the municipality of the same name in the Swedish province Västernorrland County. The city is named after Johan Christoffer Kramm, who from 1742 here had built a sawmill on the river Skvällsån, today Kramforsån.

The town was founded as an industrial location on the west side of the Ångermanälven. After a rapid flowering in the 19th and early 20th century, thanks to the booming woodworking industry, the city lost importance again. Especially in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century, many factories were shut down. Even today, the place is suffering from depopulation.
