Kreuztor (Ingolstadt)

The Cross Gate, built in 1385, is the landmark of the city of Ingolstadt. The name of the gate is derived from the former, to the west of the city located Aussätzigenhaus the Holy Cross from which was destroyed in 1546 in the Smalcald War.

The siebentürmige Kreuztor is part of the built in year 1363 second Ingolstadt city wall. It is the only one of the original four main gates Feldkirchnertor, Hardertor, Kreuztor and Donautor still preserved. And there is the original Feldkirchner gate, which also belongs to this second attachment phase. It has been integrated in an extension of the new castle in the castle grounds.

On the square tower, an octagonal building with four bays is set, which concludes with a pointed helmet. On the side of the building located away from the city limit two level bay the archway.
